About Catskill Mountain Artisans Guild
A cooperative gallery of regional artists...
The Catskill Mountain Artisans Guild is a not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to capture, unify and support the creative spirit of the Catskill region. This spirit is alive and flourishing, not only in our arts community but in our businesses, organizations and the people who call this place home. Our vision is to connect our uniquely creative, but diverse communities establishing an arts identity that will draw visitors, showcasing our special place and the people in it.
Our purpose is to help regional artists become more visible by offering a support system that helps them grow both creatively and economically. In doing so, this will help the local economy by developing a tourist attraction that will draw visitors not only to the artists, but to all other businesses in the area.
Our cooperative gallery is located on Main Street in Margaretville, NY. With more than 50 regional artists, the shop has a wide variety of handcrafted items ranging from fine art furniture and leather coats, to pottery, jewelry and hand knitted items. We also support our regional publishers, writers and musicians with a diverse collection of books, CDs and DVDs. The Guild also has another cooperative seasonal location at the Pakatakan Farmers Market which operates from May to October.
Any regional artist interested in joining the gallery or market is welcome to contact us and to have their work reviewed by the Artisan Council. This organization supports the counties of Delaware, Schoharie, Otsego, Greene, Ulster, and Sullivan but has a limited amount of space available for visiting artists (outside of region) and emerging artists (artists who are developing their craft). Members are required to contribute both rent and working hours while making a six month commitment to the gallery.
The Catskill Mountain Artisans Guild offers its gallery artists wide scale promotion through generous grants awarded from the OConnor Foundation, the New York State Council on the Arts and the Catskill Watershed Corporation, along with support from the MARK Project, the Roxbury Arts Group, the Delaware County Historical Association, The Pakatakan Farmers Market and numerous local businesses. These grants have allowed us to develop multi-arts promotions such as ART IN COMMON, the ARTIST at WORK and this summers CATSKILL ARTS & AIR series which helped connect our artists, creative business owners, visitors and community. At the present time we are expanding our web presence and developing additional venues for artists to promote their work at regional markets, shows and through workshops in collaboration with the Roxbury Arts Group.
